Arizona Community Spotlight: Las Damas de Rizal Arizona Celebrates a Historic Inaugural Oath-Taking Ceremony

Honoring Filipino Heritage, Women's Leadership, and the Legacy of Dr. José Rizal

Arizona's Filipino-American community recently celebrated a significant milestone with the Inaugural Oath-Taking Ceremony of Las Damas de Rizal Arizona, held in conjunction with the 11th Knights of Rizal Commanders Ball and the celebration of the 165th Birth Anniversary of Dr. José P. Rizal.

The event marked the official beginning of a new chapter for Las Damas de Rizal Arizona, an organization dedicated to empowering women through leadership, service, cultural preservation, and community engagement inspired by the ideals of Dr. José Rizal.

As a guest at the event, I had the opportunity to witness an evening filled with tradition, inspiration, and a shared commitment to preserving Filipino heritage while investing in future generations of leaders.

What Is Las Damas de Rizal Arizona?

Las Damas de Rizal Arizona is a nonprofit organization committed to advancing the teachings and values of Dr. José Rizal through education, leadership, volunteerism, cultural awareness, and community service.

The organization was established to provide women with opportunities to lead, serve, and make meaningful contributions to their communities while promoting Filipino culture and heritage.

The inaugural oath-taking ceremony represented more than the installation of officers—it symbolized the beginning of a movement focused on empowering women and strengthening communities throughout Arizona.

Honoring the Legacy of Dr. José Rizal

Dr. José Rizal, recognized as the national hero of the Philippines, dedicated his life to education, peaceful reform, civic responsibility, and national pride. His writings and advocacy inspired generations of Filipinos and continue to influence leaders around the world today.

More than 165 years after his birth, his ideals remain relevant through organizations like Las Damas de Rizal and the Knights of Rizal, which continue to promote cultural understanding, leadership development, and service to others.

The event served as a powerful reminder that preserving history is not simply about remembering the past—it is about carrying forward the values that can inspire future generations.

A Visionary Leader Creating a Lasting Legacy

One of the most inspiring aspects of the evening was learning more about Lady Honorary Consul Jenny Ho-Vijungco, Founder and Chairwoman of the Board of Las Damas de Rizal Arizona.

While organizations are often recognized for their programs and accomplishments, their impact begins with leaders who have the vision and determination to bring people together. Through Las Damas de Rizal Arizona, Jenny has created more than an organization—she has created a platform where women can lead, serve, inspire, and preserve cultural heritage for generations to come.

As Arizona's Honorary Philippine Consul, community advocate, healthcare administrator, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, Jenny has dedicated her efforts to strengthening the Filipino-American community and building meaningful connections throughout Arizona.

Her leadership reflects a deep commitment to service, education, cultural pride, and empowering others to make a positive difference.

What stood out most throughout the evening was the sense of purpose behind the organization. Las Damas de Rizal Arizona embodies the Filipino spirit of bayanihan—the tradition of unity, cooperation, and helping one another for the greater good.

The inaugural oath-taking ceremony was not only a milestone for the organization but also a reflection of Jenny's vision becoming reality. Seeing community leaders, families, professionals, and supporters gathered together demonstrated the impact that one person's dedication can have on an entire community.

Through her leadership, Jenny Ho-Vijungco is helping build a legacy that will continue to inspire women, strengthen communities, and preserve Filipino heritage throughout Arizona for years to come.

A Celebration of Leadership, Culture, and Community

The evening brought together leaders from across Arizona who share a commitment to service, cultural preservation, and community involvement.

Guests gathered to celebrate not only the installation of Las Damas de Rizal Arizona's leadership but also the importance of mentorship, volunteerism, education, and civic engagement.

The event showcased the strength of Arizona's Filipino-American community while creating opportunities for connection, collaboration, and future community initiatives.

As someone who is Vietnamese-American, I especially appreciated the opportunity to learn more about Filipino traditions and witness the strong sense of pride and unity that was present throughout the evening.

Events like this remind us that while our cultures may have unique histories and traditions, our shared values of family, service, education, and community bring us together.

Looking Toward the Future

The formation of Las Damas de Rizal Arizona represents an exciting step forward for leadership development, cultural preservation, and community service in Arizona.

As the organization continues to grow, its mission will undoubtedly create opportunities for women to lead, inspire, and contribute to meaningful causes while carrying forward the ideals of Dr. José Rizal.

The inaugural oath-taking ceremony was a celebration of both heritage and hope—a reminder that strong communities are built through service, leadership, education, and a commitment to helping others succeed.

Congratulations to the officers, members, and supporters of Las Damas de Rizal Arizona on this historic milestone. The future looks bright, and the impact of your work will be felt for generations to come.
